Mission
Adversity Creative Education is dedicated to empowering young people through arts education. We create bespoke, high-impact programmes that build leadership, confidence, and career readiness through drama and creative experiences. Founded and led by Bhavik Parmar, we collaborate with schools and arts organisations to deliver innovative, engaging, and transformative educational opportunities.

The Story
At Adversity Creative Education, we believe every young person deserves access to high-quality arts education. This belief isn’t just professional—it’s personal. Growing up as a South Asian in the UK, I was drawn to performance from an early age—through school plays, youth theatre, and family gatherings. But theatre was never seen as a career by my family; it was a risk.
In South Asian culture, societal expectations often shape career choices. While my passion for the arts was encouraged as a hobby, pursuing it professionally was met with doubt. I was told there were no opportunities for "people like us."
At 16, I decided to take control. I wrote, directed, and produced a play with 30 students, exploring teenage life—exam pressure, bullying, relationships, and the struggles of pursuing drama. That night, my parents' perspective shifted, and I realised I was more than just creative—I was a leader.
I studied Applied Theatre at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama and, while still a student, launched my own children’s entertainment company, Panorama Drama. Six months after graduating, I secured a full-time role at Birmingham Rep. For the first time, my parents saw my career as not just valid, but viable.
Despite my achievements, I faced new challenges—being told I "ticked the brown box" by a colleague. This reminded me that I would need to prove my worth based on my skills, not my background. Over four years, I progressed from Senior Drama Practitioner to Head of Education, leading large-scale school and community projects.
As Director of Birmingham Arts School, I connected schools and arts organisations citywide, transforming a subsidised programme into a sustainable, income-generating model, while supporting arts projects that align with school curriculum needs.
Adversity Creative Education embodies all my experiences and passion. My mission is to ensure schools have access to high-quality arts education, empower teachers to embed creativity in their classrooms, and help young people, regardless of background, see themselves in the arts. I bridge the gap between education and the creative sector, providing every child with the opportunity to build confidence, cultural capital, and a future in the arts.
